Starbox: April 2014

 My Starbox arrived today.

Starbox is the subscription box service from Starlooks. It's on the cheaper side, compared to some of the other boxes, at about $15.00 per month, and it consists entirely out of Starlooks makeup products, which are all full-size products. You will never receive any sample sizes from them, all products will be full-size.

I would like to state that, for now, this will be my last Starbox. I actually really liked their April box, but I'm currently on FMLA, due to needing surgery to remove uterine cancer [aka a hysterectomy, full on, ovaries included] and am not making money from work. I'm not quite sure how FMLA works, I mean, I get the general gist of it, but as a teacher, I am unsure if I will be unpaid till my FMLA ends or until the end of this school year, which is July 2014 since they balance our paychecks out for an entire year.

But the point is, I really had to cut down my spending on subscription boxes because I need to afford to pay for stuff like surgery, food, etc. The only two boxes/bags I am keeping is Ipsy and Julep, the rest will be on hiatus until I can afford them again after going back to work, or if I win the lottery.

This was the inside look at the box.

Starbox  is also my kitty's favorite subscription box because they love to play with the string that holds the box closed. Sorin grabbed it, at the first chance, he had.

Another look at the contents of the box.

Starlooks Wildflower Mix, worth $1.00. This was sort of an add-on for all subscribers. I attempted to plant wildflowers this spring, and they're sitting on my balcony in a pot. They've sprouted and look like green weeds. So if my wildflowers fail, I'm very happy to have a back up packet of seeds

Starlooks lip gloss in Climax, worth $12.00

I'm not really a lip sort of girl, but if I chose to wear lip makeup, it would be lip gloss.I really do like this color too. It's the right pinch of color with the right amount of pink sparkle. I would wear this color.

Starlooks 5 Shade Palette in Tokyo, worth $41.00. I did not do swatches of all the colors. I am so happy to finally receive a Starlooks eye shadow palette. I've heard such good things about their eye shadow and I'm excited I have some of my own now. 

The colors don't have names. From l to r:

The first color is a pretty shimmery light gold color. The second color is a grayish gold color. The next color is a bright spring green. Then a reddish orange. Then a brownish red color. They're not normally colors I wear, but I think they're a good mixture of experimental colors that I may be able to have some fun with.

Overall Value: $54.00, more than double what I paid for this box. 

I will miss my Starbox, but I need to do what I have to do, and hopefully once things are better for me, both health-wise and financially, I can add it back onto my subscription list :)

They are a great value subscription for their money, and they're especially good if you have a thing for lip color, seeing as every single box that I've gotten from them has had some sort of lip product ;)

Starlooks: March 2014

Technically, I got this box like three days ago, but I've been busy OBSESSING over Diablo III, and that seemed much more important then opening this box. So, apologies for the delayed review :P

This month featured products chosen by Ashley Hackman, I have no idea who that is, but she has very pretty cursive.

I will say, that out of all my boxes, Starlooks is my cat's favorite. As soon as he sees the string that's holding the box closed, he tries to steal it so he can play with it.

Anyhow, Starbox is the subscription box from Starlooks. It contains 3-4 full-size Starlooks makeup products that you receive every month. It's $15.99, which puts it on the lower end of full-size product boxes.  Their makeup is very high quality.

Lipstick in Boss, retails for $12.00

I hate lipstick. I especially hate this color. It's like neon red. It's the type of lipstick that I would wear, in college, if I was going to the bar, and wanted to get laid. IT'S SO BRIGHT!

No offense to anyone, who likes red lipstick. 

Here's a swatch of it, on my hand. This is going into the... I HATE THIS, SOMEONE ELSE CAN HAVE IT, GIVE AWAY PILE, that keeps getting bigger because I'm too lazy to get my ass to the post-office. 

Lip Liner in cherry cedar, also worth $12.00.

I don't even understand the point of lip liner. And even if I did, I'd hate the fact that it's very red, even though it does have a pretty name.

This will also be going into my give-away pile.

Eyeliner in black hole, worth $13.00. 

Finally, a product I like.

I love me some black eyeliner. It has great staying quality too because I made this swatch on my hand, and then tried to wash it off, and it wouldn't come off, so now my entire hand looks like it's bruised. 

I really do like their eye-liner and eye products though. I think they're awesome quality.

Their lipstick and stuff is great quality too, I'm sure, they're just not my cup of tea.

So the total value:  $37.00, which is well over what I paid for the box, but this box just seems lower quality than all the other boxes I've gotten.  And with this being a special edition box, I would think their would be special edition colors or products that came with it. 

A very meh box. 

Hopefully April will be better?

I loved my February box, but I don't think this box is anything special.

Starbox: February 2014

I loved my Starbox so much more this month then last month.

FYI, Starbox is the subscription box service of Starlooks. I had gotten some Starlooks samples in one of my Wantable boxes and was curious about their products, so I subscribed to their service.

Starbox is about $16.00 per month, and they sent you ONLY full-size products of their own brand. There's usually 3-4 products per month, and there tend to be several different colors of whatever product they send.

I've found their customer service is great. When I had my billing issues due to the Target Credit Card Scam and had to contact them, they responded right away, and they were very nice and helpful.

I wasn't too pleased with their January Box, but I give each subscription at least a three month chance before I cancel it, and I really liked what I got in my February box, so I'm glad I kept with it.

This is this month's box. It's gold with a holographic logo. I like holographs.

First look inside of the box.

Item number one... A Hairband? They advertise this as something to use when you're putting on makeup to keep your hair out of your face, when you do your makeup, but to me, it's just a simple hairband. Value: maybe... $2.00?

A Starlooks Cream Shadow in Phaser. It isn't even on their website since it's a brand-new product. I'll price it to the same price their long-wear eyeliner pots are because they're of similar design, so about $12.00

It's a very creamy shimmery lavender color with some hints of silver. This is it on my hand with no primer or anything. I don't wear much purple eye makeup, but this is a color that I could get into because of the silver sheen, and it's eye makeup and I like eye makeup.

Starlooks Pigment in Wall Street, worth about $12.00.

I love it. It's black with silver sparkles in it, just like my favorite oil slick 24/7 eyeliner from Urban Decay. I wore this yesterday, and a little bit goes a long way. It also had GREAT staying power. It lasted through me sweating through the Houston Zoo, a shower because I was sooo damn sweaty from the zoo, and a night out at the pub with my friends without me ever having to reapply it. I used it as a highlight color and I loved it.

Starlooks Lipstick in Drew, worth$12.00.

I'm not really a lipstick type gal, but I can get by with this. It's so pale that it barely leaves any color on my skin, which makes it more like a lip gloss to me, and it's a very neutral color that I would wear, if I ever feel like wearing lipstick. So I'll keep this, in case the opportunity ever arises, where I want to wear lipstick because it is a "me" color.

So, I was ever so satisfied with my Starbox this month, and I'm excited to see what they'll include in the next box.

I paid about $16.00 for this box, and got $38.00 worth of makeup from this box, which is more than half of what I initially paid. So the price is worth it.

I really hope I get some of their eyeliner pencils in an upcoming box because I am eager to try those out. I really like their eye products a lot.

Starbox is a good subscription box. You always get more than what you put into it, and the quality of their products is really good, so check them out, if you're so inclined, they always send a variety of different products every month, so there's always something new to try.

Starlooks Starbox January 2014

So, my first Starbox finally came, and I have to say I'm a bit disappointed.

First of all Starbox comes from Starlooks. It's a makeup subscription that consists entirely of Starlooks products. One of the pros is that it's very affordable when compared to Wantable or some of the more expensive makeup subscription boxes, it's only about $15.00 per month, and you get 4 full-size makeup products, and a makeup tool.

This month, Starlooks did something different with their Starbox.  They sent every subscriber different products. Up until this month, every subscriber had gotten the same thing.

This was my first ever Starbox.

It comes in a white envelope, and it's the perfect size to fit into my tiny apartment mailbox, which is always a plus. The box itself is cute too, it looks like a present. My orange tabby Ajani immediately stole that silver string from the box and started playing with it.

It comes with a sheet that describes this month's theme. January's theme was "Surprise Yourself." It's all about not being afraid to take risks, which is a major girl power theme, so props for that.

This was the unboxing, four mystery products, a tool, and tiny quartz crystal.

This was one of the products I really liked that I received in my box. It's Starlooks Infinity Eyeliner in Milky Way, worth $13.00, as all products in a Starbox are full-size makeup products.

It's a creme based eyeliner, that can probably be used as a shadow, as well. It's silvery white, which is totally one of my wedding colors, so I approve. I've also always loved silver/white eye-products because I feel like they make me look more awake than I actually am, and they blend very nicely with other colors.

A Mascara Comb, price unknown, so I'll go with $8.00 based on a similar type product I found via a google search.

Not gonna lie, at first I had no idea what it was, but it made the perfect brush for my Rainbow Dash. Then I actually looked at the information card and realized what it was.

It's supposed to separate your lashes after you apply mascara and get rid of clumps. This has happened to me before, so I'm eager to see if it really does what it says it does.

Now, THIS IS WHAT DISAPPOINTED ME, I GOT THREE LIP PRODUCTS!!!

I don't do lipstick, I don't like lipstick. This is the same problem I had with my Wantable this month, I don't like lip products, yet they sent me two of them. 

Why three lip products? Why not one lip product, maybe an eyeshadow or a mascara or even an eyeliner. I was very sad I didn't get a pencil eyeliner.

I don't like lipstick, I won't wear lipstick. I only used the lipstick to make these swatches for anyone, who reads this. I want to give away these lipsticks, FREE OF CHARGE, so somebody can get a use from them. My third lip product, Tender Gloss in Puzzy, worth $13.00

That very slight shimmery color in the bottom left corner of my hand is the color. I had to swatch a lot even to get that much to shimmer. This is the only lip product that I got that I have any interest in, and that's only because it's more a gloss than lipstick. It will just give my lips a slight shimmer, and I'm okay with that. I do like lip gloss and lip gloss like products.

My tiny crystal, every box comes with a crystal since they sparkle like stars.

I spent $15.00 and maybe two something for shipping, and I got products worth $64.00.

So yes, the Starbox is definitely worth its price.

My biggest qualm with it is just that I got a lot of lip products and not much of a variety. I'm sure a lip lover would have LOVED this box, I am just not a lip lover.

It's only their first month, they still have a chance with me. I just hope there's more of a variety of product for the February box.
